While Saline is St. Barths’ wild beach, Saint-Jean is its lively beach. On either side of the airport runway, its turquoise bay is home to the island’s liveliest attractions: restaurants right on the sand, water sports, shops just a towel’s throw away—and that one-of-a-kind spectacle of planes skimming the hillside before landing.

Two beaches in one

On the west side, the beach runs alongside the runway: this is where photographers wait to capture the impressive, perfectly executed landings. On the east side, the atmosphere takes on a chic seaside vibe: iconic hotels, beach clubs, lounge chairs, and cocktails. In between, a long stretch of light-colored sand and generally calm waters—perfect for swimming and paddleboarding.

A Paradise for Activities

Saint-Jean is the island’s water sports hub: stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, beginner surf lessons when the swell is right, and all kinds of rentals. Families will find everything they need here—calm waters, amenities within easy reach—and so will teenagers, which isn’t the case at all the island’s beaches. For a more active day, the Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon and its kitesurfers are just ten minutes away.

Lunch with Your Feet in the Sand

This is THE beach spot for lunch: grilled fish, salads, chilled rosé, all in a laid-back atmosphere that heats up as the afternoon goes on. You’ll need to make reservations at these spots during peak season, just like everywhere else—our St. Barth's Restaurant Guide helps you put together the schedule.

The perfect balance with the untamed south

Saint-Jean and Grande Saline are the island’s two complementary sides: bustling activity on one side, tranquility on the other. Many of our guests go back and forth: an active day in Saint-Jean, then back in the tranquility of the lodge and the last bath at Saline Beach when the light turns golden. A ten-minute drive separates these two worlds—that’s the magic of an island just 21 km² in size.
