No road leads to Colombier, and that\u2019s part of its charm. At the northwestern tip of St. Barth, this sheltered bay is well worth the effort: a half-hour walk along the coastal trail or a boat ride from the sea. The trailhead is at the end of Route de la Petite Anse, past Flamands. The trail winds along the hillside above unbelievably turquoise waters, with scenic views at every turn. Allow about thirty minutes at a leisurely pace; be sure to wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, and a hat\u2014and save some energy for the return trip, as the final climb is in the sun.<\/p>\n
Colombier is also a favorite stopover for boat trips: the sheltered bay offers a dream anchorage for a swim and some snorkeling. A catamaran trip<\/a> lets you take in the bay, the neighboring islets, and a sunset out at sea\u2014the most relaxing way to explore the island's coastline.<\/p>\n The bay\u2019s seagrass beds provide food for turtles, which you\u2019re almost certain to spot\u2014from a respectful distance. Observe, but never touch; the area is protected by the nature reserve. Parrotfish, rays, and corals round out the spectacle.
